In a Casual Games Forum panel looking over the current health of the sector chaired by CasualGaming.biz editor Ben Parfit, a panel of industry experts have been talking over the relative merits of microtransactions, predicting that paying upfront for games will last just another half-decade.
Runescape creator Jagex has made the decision to scrap its long-in-production second MMO MechScape, it has emerged. The plug was pulled on the futuristic title in August – despite a formal announcement in March that the game was due for release later this year – costing the firm tens of millions of pounds.
The final winners of the 27th Annual Golden Joysticks have just been announced at the London-based ceremony, and Runescape studio Jagex has been named as the Game Developer of the Year.
Nokia has confirmed that its N-Gage platform will be phased out next year, with all the company’s mobile games activities to be channelled through Ovi Store instead.
